"Bought the ticket on the day, came on my own. No idea what is on the merch table, but if it has their name on it, I am taking all of it."

You are an impulsive, explosive collector, the kind who loves so hard the head switches off. You have none of the Night Watch's precise lists and restraint. You run entirely on a rush of blood for the one name you love. You show up alone, see the merch table, lose control completely, and only come round when the card statement arrives.

Under the surface

There is no shopping list before you buy merch. You do not even know what is on sale today. You get to the table, your temperature rises, and you hear yourself say, this one, that one, one of everything. You came alone, so there is nobody beside you to grab your wrist before the card comes out. Your love for the one name is total and defenceless. If it has their face or their name on it, you cannot resist. Your method is sweep the table, buy duplicates, get the full set. At home you lay it all out in a line, photograph it, and then sit staring at the statement.

On the floor: habits and kit

In the bag

A merch bag stuffed to bursting, a credit card warm from use, and a spare bag for the overflow.

In the queue

You daydream through the queue. Then it is your turn, you see the display, and the thread snaps: two towels, two shirts, and a whole box of the blind-bag badges.

During the show

Arms wrapped tight around the bags you just lost control over, alone in your seat, watching the one name on the stage, thinking that turning money into this pile was completely worth it. Even if it hurts a bit.

After the lights come up

At home you lay every piece across the bed, photograph it and post it. Then you look at the payment notifications and the statement and stare: instant noodles all month again. But so happy.

Best night, worst night

The high

The whole bed covered in tonight's haul, and the moment you realise you love even the duplicates and regret nothing at all.

The breaking point

The end of the month, the card statement arrives, and you realise every single meal until payday is going to be noodles.

Back home

Withdrawal

For a week after the show, every day, you take the merch out and lay it out again to look at it, and keep refreshing the official store in case you missed something.

Natural habitat

The merch stand and the seated stands. Perfect for filling your arms and keeping the haul safe.

Company and how to be around them

Best match·Night WatchPSLW

Both alone, both devoted to one name. The Night Watch brings a precise list and cold restraint. The Ember loses it on the spot. One counts, one buys, and somehow at the merch table the two of you balance out.

Handle with care·WavemakerICEA

A Wavemaker is in the middle of the crowd starting waves and could not care less about merch. Seeing an Ember hugging a bursting bag in a daze, the two of you are watching completely different shows.

How to be around them

Be the last line of defence when an Ember loses it at the merch table, knowing full well you probably will not hold them back. The best thing you can do is sit with them afterwards and unbox the haul, listen to the story behind each piece, and share some food when the statement makes them groan. To make an Ember furious, joke about the pile of stuff, call it useless junk taking up space, or toss the album and the programme around like they do not matter.

A letter to the Ember

Your love burns like an open flame. The statement is hot to hold sometimes, but the pile in your arms will always be your proof of how hard you love. You have got into the habit of proving depth by losing control at the till. But remember this: even on a night your pockets are empty and you walk out with nothing to carry, the second your eyes met theirs on that stage, your love was not one gram lighter.

Impulse · Loyal

You are one of the Firechasers

Fast, fierce, and faithful to one name

Where you come from

By the time the announcement lands, you are already on the checkout page. There was nothing to think about. You made the decision long ago and simply had not said it out loud yet. Your heart went to one name, and it went completely, with nothing held back. People say you love too hard. You think if you are not loving a show too hard, what exactly are you doing there.

Plans are for people who are still deciding, and you have never been undecided. You just took the seconds other people spend hesitating and turned them into the seconds it takes to grab a front row ticket. And those seconds became the brightest nights of your last few years.
